- Click Start. Click Settings.
Click Control Panel. Double-click the Modems icon.
- Click Add. Follow the directions
in the Modem Setup Wizard.
- Choose Close on the Modem
Properties box after the modem has been installed.
- Close the Control Panel.
- Double-click the My Computer
icon on the desktop. If you do not see a Dial-Up Networking
Folder, then follow steps 2.2 through 2.6.
- Click Start, click Settings,
click Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Windows Setup tab.
- Click Communications, then
click Details.
- Check Dial-Up Networking,
and then click OK and OK again.
- If prompted, restart your
computer.
- Click Start, click Settings,
click Control Panel, double-click Network.
If the Windows 95 TCP/IP protocol is already installed,
go to step 3.5.
- Click Add. Click Protocol,
and then click Add.
- Click Microsoft, and then
click TCP/IP. Click OK.
- If the Dial-Up Adapter is
already installed go to step 3.8.
- Click Add. Click Adapter,
and then click Add.
- Click Microsoft from the Manufacturer's
List and make sure Dial-Up Adapter is selected. Click OK.
- Click Dial-Up Adapter, and
then click Properties.
- Click the Bindings tab, and
then make sure the TCP/IP check box is checked.
- You should have 3 components
installed. Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter,
and TCP/IP. Highlight and remove any others.
- Click OK, then OK again.
- If prompted, restart your
computer.
- Click Start, click Settings,
click Control Panel. Double-click Network.
- Click TCP/IP (If there is
more than one TCP/IP entry, click the one labeled TCP/IP
/ Dial-Up Adapter) and then click Properties.
- Click Obtain An IP Address
Automatically.
- On the Bindings tab, clear
the File And Printer Sharing box if shown.
- On the Wins Configuration
tab select Use DHCP.
- Click OK, then OK again.
- If prompted, restart your
computer to save changes.
- Double-click the My Computer
icon, and then double-click the Dial-Up Networking folder.
- Double-click the Make New
Connection icon.
- Enter Forbin PPP in place
of My Connection.
- Select a modem to use if you
have more than one to choose from and click Next.
- Fill in the telephone number for Forbin Internet access:
Waterloo/Cedar Falls/Waverly/Denver 235-6000. Uncheck Use
Area Code, if checked. Click Next.
- Click Finish to create the
connection icon.
- Click
the connection you created in step 6, then click Properties
on the File menu.
- Click
Server Type.
- Make
sure Type of Dial-Up Server is:
PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet.
- Uncheck
'Logon To Network.'
- Make
sure TCP/IP is checked.
Click on the TCP/IP Settings box.
Select Server Assigned IP address.
Select Specify Nameservers.
Enter 204.71.100.3 for primary nameserver and 204.71.100.248
for secondary nameserver.
Leave Use default gateway on remote network checked.
- Click
OK and OK again.
- Click
Connections on the menu, click Settings.
- Set
Redial if you want to use it and your preferred settings.
- Click
Do not prompt to use Dial-Up Networking and then click OK.
Set
the redial frequency, if desired.
- The dialup access number is 235-6000. DO NOT enter the area
code.
Click on
My Computer, Dial-Up Networking, and drag the Forbin PPP icon
out onto your desktop by right-clicking and holding in the mouse
button, moving the icon outside of the Dial-Up Networking window.
Take your finger off the mouse button and 'Make a Shortcut
Here.' You can use this to connect to Forbin by double-clicking
it. When you do, you will get a Connect To dialog box.
Fill in
your username from your enrollment form.(i.e. joe@forbin.net
has a username of joe so you would omit the @forbin.net)
Then enter
your password (in lowercase) in the password box.
Click
the connect button to dial into Forbin so that you may use
the Internet.
